President’s XI lift the inaugural India-Bhutan Friendship Cricket Series

In the inaugural Bhutan_India Friendship Cricket Series organized by the Embassy of India in Thimphu in collaboration with Bhutan Cricket, team President’s XI beat the Ambassadors XI by 74 runs at the India House Estate cricket ground yesterday. The cricket event was also part of India’s 75 years of Independence celebration.

President’s XI Jigme Singye was awarded the man of the match and the best batter for his knock of 67 of 30 balls while Anju Gurung was awarded the best bowler and Barun Wakhley was given the best catch of the match award. All the winners were given cash prizes of Nu. 5000 each. The winning team was also awarded a cash prize of Nu.25, 000.

The historic event was graced with dignitaries including the Ambassador of India to Bhutan Ruchira Kamboj, Foreign Minister Lyonpo Tandin Dorji, and Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army Lt. General Batoo Tshering.

In the closing remarks of the event, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj congratulated the winning team and shared her support towards the Bhutan women’s team who will be participating in the world cup qualifier later this year in Malaysia. “We are happy to have your training at the embassy ground and the entire Embassy shall root for you and also sends our best wishes for the upcoming qualifiers,” she said.

Her Excellency said, “This is the first friendly cricket match and every year we will have a match between Bhutan and India.” “This is another example of wonderful warm relations between the two countries and people to people level and it is my wish that this love and relationship gets even stronger.
