SriLankan Head Coach for Bhutan Cricket

Bhutan Cricket Council Board has added new dynamism to their development path by roping a new national coach from SriLanka Mr. Trishane (Full name Anton Trishane Nonis Warnakula Paththinikuttige).

Expanding to more than 25 years of coaching and training experience, Mr. Trishane will bring the much needed expertise and missing piece to the development of cricket in Bhutan.

Mr. Trishane was chosen from 33 other applicants for the head coach post.  He had earlier held responsibilities of a head coach for Qatar U-19 and senior men’s team and Saudi Arabia u-19 team. He also owns and head coaches a cricket academy in the name of Pro Coach Cricket Academy Matara in his home town.

After being selected as the head coach, Mr. Trishane in a telephonic conversation expressed his gratitude and excitement to take up the new challenge as Bhutan Crickets head coach. He said, “Looking forward to work with Bhutan Cricket. I chose to put forward my interest for this job due to the fact of how Bhutan Cricket is progressing and developing.”

“I have seen and sensed the keen and interest of playing cricket in Bhutanese players and my commitment will be to take Bhutan Cricket forward and and in achieving the best of results.”

 “He has huge experience in the field and has also coached other countries who have performed and development under his leadership,” said CEO of Bhutan Cricket, Damber Gurung against the recruitment of the head coach.

Mr. Damber also said that the newly appointed coach was associated to the men’s national team when they played practice matches in SriLanka before world division 8 in Samoa in 2012.

“We believe our new coach has all the qualities and the much needed understanding of cricket for a country like Bhutan.” “Coaching Bhutan and coaching big cricketing nation is quite different, and we believe Mr. Trishane has that mentality and similar direction in achieving our vision.”

Mr. Trishane will take over his head coach responsibilities later this year. His tenure will be for initial two years with possible extension depending on mutual agreement.

Tandin Wangchuk is the Press Officer for Bhutan Cricket. Played for Bhutan U19 to Senior team for a decade and previously worked as a Reporter/Copy Writer with Kuensel, the national newspaper of Bhutan.
